To mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Institut Marguerite-d'Youville by Sister Virginie Allaire, the Fonds de développement at Université de Montréal, with the help of the Grey Nuns of Montreal, created the Virginie-Allaire Scholarship.
This merit-based scholarship program is open to master's and doctoral students as well as postdoctoral fellows who demonstrate an exceptional aptitude for research in nursing. Since the creation of the Marguerite-d'Youville Research Chair in Humanistic Nursing Interventions in 2016, the scholarship has been awarded to students who are supervised or co-supervised by the Chairholder and whose area of interest is related to the Chair's main objectives:
• To analyze the needs of individuals, families and communities with respect to their health experiences;
• To develop humanistic support strategies that will enhance the quality of the care experience for individuals, families and communities;
• To develop interventions that sensitize nurses to the importance of providing humanistic, compassionate and comforting care, in order to help maintain human dignity and promote resilience; and
• To evaluate nursing interventions with individuals, families and communities.
These scholarships provide a boost to the academic careers of their recipients, as underscored by the following testimonials:
