SUPPORT FOR THE CAREGIVERS OF PEOPLE WITH ALZHEIMER'S OR RELATED DISORDER THROUGHOUT THEIR JOURNEY IS ESSENTIAL!
Caregivers are people who provide care, support, services or coaching to someone who is close to them and has one or more disabilities, temporarily or on a permanent basis. They assume this role in addition to the other roles in their daily lives. Sometimes it is added gradually and has negative impacts.
The research program at the Marguerite-d'Youville Chair recognizes the key role played by caregivers. Being a caregiver certainly has many rewarding aspects, but being a caregiver clearly can have impacts on the caregiver's health, such as through exhaustion or fatigue.
The Chair's research program addresses concerns about the well-being and quality of life of caregivers. One of its components is focused on developing and evaluating new nursing interventions designed to provide coaching and support, with a humanistic perspective, to the caregivers of people with neurocognitive disorders. If you are a caregiver and you are interested in learning more about the interventions developed by the Chair, or wish to benefit from them, we encourage you to contact us.
