My Tools 4 Care-in-Care

My Tools 4 Care -In-Care is an online toolkit designed to help caregivers cope with the changes they face when caring for a senior with Alzheimer's disease or another neurocognitive disorder living in a long-term care facility. This toolkit is based on results from a research project that, among other things, gathered comments from the caregivers who took part in its evaluation.  Its purpose is to provide information, reduce social isolation and propose action strategies, so that caregivers will not feel excluded from the decisions being made about the care provided to their loved one.

The toolkit was first developed in English by a team of researchers at the University of Alberta. It was translated into French and adapted to this cultural context by the Université de Montréal Marguerite-d'Youville Research Chair on Humanistic Nursing Interventions. The adaptation was developed with input from participants from Québec and other French-speaking communities in Canada. The French-language version of the toolkit was tested and evaluated, and videos were made of caregivers sharing their experiences.

My Tools 4 Care-In-Care is organized in four sections
 1)  About Me
  2) Common Changes to Expect
  3) Frequently Asked Questions
  4) Resources

This kit is provided as a “self-serve resource”! Caregivers can browse through only the content that interests them, and in the order that suits them best. Since it is available online, the caregiver kit can be accessed on a computer or tablet, at the time of your choosing.

The development and evaluation of My Tools 4 Care-In-Care was made possible by a grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada. The English and French versions of the toolkit are hosted on the website of the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
